$150,000 Bail Posted For George Zimmerman; Florida Gov. Reviews “Stand Your Ground” Law

————On the condition of electronic surveillance, George Zimmerman’s bail has been posted at $150,000 USD.  Zimmerman was arrested and charged with second-degree murder on April 11 for the February 26 killing of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin.

————Zimmerman was arrested after 45 days of controversy surrounding the circumstances of Martin’s death and the police investigation of the shooting.  18th Judicial Circuit of Seminole County Judge Jessica Recksiedler decided not to be the judge in the court case, State of Florida v. Zimmerman, because of a conflict of interest.  Judge Kenneth R. Lester Jr. is now presiding over the case.

————The shooting of Trayvon Martin has sparked a national controversy, with the country largely divided along racial lines in opinion of it.  One aspect of the controversy, Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, has been prevalent in liberal criticism of Martin’s shooting.  Under pressure, Florida’s Governor Rick Scott has decided to form a task force to review the law.
